Spending time with the installations team has given graduate Shaun exposure to a whole range of projects

This article is over a year old and as such may be out of date.

Shaun joined Global Marine in September last year after completing his BEng Marine Engineering degree at the University of Greenwich.

“Since joining the Global Marine installations department I have been actively involved in both project engineering and project management.

I have worked closely with a number of teams within the company on a variety of projects including designing pipeline crossings, reviewing engineering designs and calculations, preparing and updating technical documents, producing scopes of work, being involved in commercial negotiations as well as identifying and assigning appropriate resources to ensure works were carried out within agreed timescales and budget.

Some of the key projects I have been involved in include assisting the shallow water services team landing fibre optic cables in challenging weather conditions in one of the world’s northernmost settlements, Ny-Ålesund, Norway, attending Wave Sentinel’s dry docking for repairs as well as most recently working alongside Cable Innovator’s Ship Superintendent to successfully manage her 4th Statutory Special Survey.

Throughout my first placement it was apparent that the people at Global Marine want to support the graduates to become the next generation of talent, they encourage development through involvement in a number of challenging and technical projects – which has been great.”

Shaun will soon be moving on to his second placement within the organisation.
