I cannot quite believe that it is 18 months since I first walked into the Global Marine office, the time has flown past, and as the saying goes time flies when you are having fun. I feel very privileged to have experienced working in the Maintenance, Sales and Commercial and Fleet Operations Departments during this time and am looking forward to spending time in Installation later this year.

These rotations have allowed me to experience everything from attending sales meetings, seeing bids turn into projects, going out on a repair and conducting a vessel readiness inspection, to name a few. These in turn have helped me gain a wealth of knowledge, both technical and commercial.

I appreciate the opportunities to take on responsibility that allow me to challenge myself on a daily basis and am thankful for the support from all the onshore and offshore personnel that has helped me thrive on these challenges.

I joined Global Marine in 2014 straight from completing my BEng Marine Engineering degree from the University of Greenwich. In the 18 months I’ve been with the company, I’ve been given a variety of roles with increasing amounts of responsibility which continues to develop and challenge me. From the very first week of joining the business I have been actively involved in many different project engineering and project management tasks, some of which involved;

  • Assisting onsite with cable pull-ins in one of the world’s northernmost settlements, Ny-Ålesund, Norway.
  • Demobilising a Jet Trenching ROV spread in Singapore.
  • Supporting the Ship Superintendent by project managing a 5 year statutory Dry Docking in Dunkirk, France.
  • Subsea pipeline crossing designs.
  • Mobilising an ROV spread in Singapore.

All projects have involved ensuring project procedures are followed safely and efficiently, producing scopes of work, budget and contract variation control, producing and updating internal task plans and plans of work, producing and maintaining risk logs and daily project updates.

Global Marine supports all graduates through a structured development scheme which offers the chance to gain a broad knowledge base in each department, before settling into a role best suited to each individual.

Since starting at Global Marine 18 months ago I have been fortunate enough to be a part of both the Sales & Commercial and Installation teams and have really enjoyed the challenges faced in both departments. I have gained a wealth of new skills and have been fortunate enough to travel to parts of the world where I would have never visited had I chosen a different career.

A highlight for me was being involved in the successful landing of a cable in Nigeria last year and I am currently writing this while out on a project in Oman.

Having completed the Graduate Scheme I am now part of the Shallow Water Services team where I am involved in both the tender stages as well as the implementation and management of contracted projects, seeing projects through from start to finish; something I am very keen to do. Everyone at Global Marine has made me feel extremely welcome and I can’t wait be a part of the company’s growth over the next 18 months!
